The window period for individuals to seek elections to the Supreme Court begins (a) nine months before the formal nomination date of the Convention; (b) a recognized party-supported party held in the candidate’s jurisdiction for the purpose of discussing or considering the nomination of representatives to the judicial nomination conference The date of the core group or committee meeting, even if the resulting designation or recognition will be subject to subsequent competitions.

The Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee responds to approximately 3,600 judges and judicial officers and hundreds of judicial hearings in New York State, and supports the Magistrates' Courts, court lawyers-judges and written inquiries from judicial candidates (judges seeking elections and non-judges). The committee interprets the Rules of Judicial Conduct (22 NYCRR Part 100) and the Code of Judicial Conduct (within the scope of application). The committee is composed of 27 current and retired judges and is co-chaired by His Excellency Margaret Walsh, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and His Excellency Lillian Wan, Judge of the Court of Claims and Acting Supreme Court Judge.

Summary: (1) The window period for individuals to seek elections to the Supreme Court begins (a) nine months before the formal nomination date of the Convention; (b) is held in the candidate’s jurisdiction for the purpose of discussing or considering nomination of representatives to the Judicial Nomination Conference The date of the core group or committee meeting that is recognized by the party, even if the resulting designation or endorsement will be subject to subsequent competitions. (2) If the date of such a meeting has not yet been determined, the candidate can assume that the official date of the previous year will be used again for the upcoming party meeting, and then count nine months from that assumed date.
